SUMMARY OF JOB

The VP Product Marketplace will be responsible to set the strategic direction and drive the ongoing product performance of our core marketplace product lines through developing new or enhancing existing digital products.

The ideal candidate for this role has a proven track record of defining, designing and delivering best in class digital products in both web and mobile.

 

Product Leadership

  • Accountable to define and communicate the strategic product roadmap for all marketplace products and product lines (listings and upgrades) existing and new, including the process and outputs required to communicate and coordinate process through to delivery
  • Scope includes:
    • PV (New and Used), C&R, core packages, listing upgrades.
    • Product roadmap/executional plan to add annual value to core packages to sustain annual rate increase programs
    • Life cycle management for the existing product lines and Identify and recommend product improvements to fit customer needs and ensure market competitiveness
  • Accountable to help plot the product execution plans for new areas of growth (in some cases defined by Sr Management)
  • Ability to drive analysis of product vendor or partner strategies
  • Responsible for product idea validation & actively drive business case/investment decision process
  • Have a clear understanding of business cases, costs and profitability for each product
  • Ensure best in class consumer experience while delivering a commercial roadmap
  • Coach the product leads if required on backlog grooming, conflict resolution, and unblocking priority conflicts between teams
  • Ensure that we are delivering business solutions that meet business needs and requirements – ensure customer feedback, patterns, consumer behaviors understood, and processes developed to feed into the product lifecycle

Product Strategy:

  • Drive business/product improvements aligned with the strategic goals of the company
  • Own annual road mapping process within product and coordinate for external teams’ engagement in the process including prioritization
  • Participate in long-range strategy planning to address complex business issues and new product development/integrations
  • Anticipate, challenge, and interpret marketplace and technology trends and innovations as they relate to the backlogs and future product roadmaps
  • Participate in product due diligence for new technology partners or purchases
  • Bring together cross-functional teams as required to influence business decisions and advance long-term strategic efforts

Performance Management:

  • Make staffing level and performance decisions
  • Work with the Product Leads to develop, establish, and maintain standards, procedures and KPIs
  • Introduce metrics designed to track the effect of the product teams to determine whether all leads are effective at meeting targets
  • Lead product owners to develop/review product health reports & effect change based on results
  • Manage career path and succession planning for the product teams to ensure continuous improvement and stability of the teams

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience developing, coaching and leading highly talented and technical teams
  • Ability to consistently and collaboratively resolve issues, mitigate roadblocks, prioritize and align teams
  • Strong decision-making skills, attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Strong and articulate communicator; ability to influence both peers and executives
  • Self-starter with ability to be productive in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction
  • Ability to inspire teams to meet business commitments

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Computer Science/Engineering or related field; MBA an asset
  • 10+ years in digital product management with 5+ years in a senior leadership capacity
  • Minimum 5 years management experience
  • Demonstrated success in meeting budgets and timelines in delivery of product
